film restoration

Our team is passionate about film, its preservation and restoration.

Our colourists and restoration artists have a deep love and understanding of film technology as well as the expertise required to restore your film to its original vision.

We have restored 26 feature films from 1957 to 1989, remastered 8 prewar feature films from 1932 to 1943 and more than 1600 minutes
of documentary films from 1946 to 1986, and digitised over 16 hours of footage from the archives from the National Film School in Poland.

We also work with the National Film Archive (Filmoteka Narodowa), the Educational Film Studio (Wytwórnia Filmów Oświatowych),
the National Audiovisual Institute (Narodowy Insytut Audiowizualny), Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México and the Lithuanian Film Centre.

The safety of our clients’ films is our number one priority. We handle each film individually, in a climate-controlled, dust-free environment, treating each reel with care and respect. At Fixafilm, we know how important it is to our clients that the film remains faithful to the original, we work together with the filmmakers or those that are directly responsible for the restored version of the film, to ensure the final result respects the original creator’s vision.

Our colourists are experienced in working with archival films, including nitrate (plus tinting and toning), with excellent results in the recovery of colour, even on severely faded and damaged film.
Our studio uses powerful workstations equipped with the most sophisticated software available, including Phoenix, Revival, PFClean, Dark Energy, Viva, Nuke, and Syntheyes. Our grading suite has a 42-inch reference Dolby monitor and Nucoda FilmMaster with Valhall panel. This allows us to work quickly and make multiple changes based on client feedback.

However, we know that technology is not everything – that is why we put a heavy emphasis on client consultation and are never locked into a single approach. We are constantly improving our workflow – so that our approach is perfectly adapted to each individual project.
